Dignitas International mission is to ‘build communities that contribute to the development of their inhabitants and promote human dignity’, to ‘ ... build adequate housing for the impoverished and vulnerable populations at a worldwide level and specially in the countries of Latin America’. Dignitas International intent is to build 30,000 homes a year for the following six years. A prototypical master plan was created to be able to visualize the magnitude of the effort. LEED ND design guidelines - diversity of housing types; proximity to jobs, housing and open space; community gardens; walkable streets; etc - served as guidelines for the prototype. The prototype master plan for 30,000 units is composed of four neighborhoods. Each neighborhood has its own core area that include schools, commercial space, churches, etc. located within a walkable distance. A community core is located at the major road intersection. This prototypical plan will be used as a first test on future potential sites.
